About Force Mill
Force Mill is an 18th Century Grade II listed stone farmhouse, that has been completely transformed and refurbished recently into an immaculate holiday home on the banks of the River Eden.
The Mill House itself can still be seen but sadly its days are long gone and the original millrace that powered the water wheel is choked and dry. Today, the contribution it makes is a visual one, forming part of a spectacular vista towards the tumbling waterfall, which in the Cumbrian dialect is a ‘force’. A little distance away, can be found the farm buildings (until recently it was a working farm) and the large stone byre you pass on the way has been converted into a further holiday home, also available to let. The two houses are some distance away from each other and are both entirely private but do share an access road.
Force Mill itself is a comfortable cottage in intimate surroundings. An open fireplace with its charming sandstone surround is the natural focus to the sitting room and rug-strewn stone flagged floors ensure it retains much of its original charm. This leads through to a cheerful family dining room with a gas wood-burner and dramatic arched window overlooking the river. The dining room is open to a modern, fitted kitchen.
There is a double bedroom upstairs with two further twin-bedded rooms and a generous bathroom. A second bathroom is located at the foot of the stairs, opposite the utility room.
